THE OPPORTUNITY

 

As our Senior Major Gifts Officer, you will implement our clients’ major gift programs, focusing primarily on an annual giving plan or special campaign. You will be responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with the client’s existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors, have high emotional intelligence, and clearly communicate the client’s mission is key. You’ll be expected to energize client team members, persuade donor prospects, and persevere to reach our goals. Most crucially, you will be expected to have a pleasant and thoughtful style with our clients who will see you as the embodiment of our firm. On the job you will be tasked with identifying of new donors. For this, LAPA has a proprietary premiere donor analytics program that you would be asked to learn and use well.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Secure major gifts at the $25,000 to $500,000 level with the goal of raising $5 to $25 million annually.
  • Help our clients accomplish their philanthropic goals and donor revenue ambitions.
  • Conduct feasibility interviews either as a standalone phase or integrated into the initial discovery period of a campaign.
  • Succinctly write your notes immediately following each donor meeting, documenting each in our database and management applications.
  • Manage client systems and software to track and cultivate their donors and prospects.
  • Manage and grow the client’s existing portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Guide the client’s board, executive team, and/or development department to align efforts and set goals.
  • Create and implement moves management plans.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and lead the board and other staff with their solicitation (i.e., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and bolster donor communications).
  • Redesign the donor recognition program to acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
  • Oversee multiple annual fund programs for several organizations.
  • Track and report, both to the client and to the LAPA Managing Director, progress that use specific LAPA performance metrics.

Team Structure:

 

  • Staff and consultants are an integral part of LAPA’s core consulting strength, providing fundraising services and working collaboratively with LAPA executives and client leaders to identify, design, and implement successful fundraising efforts. Each consultant’s responsibilities will vary from project to project depending on the needs of our clients, providing exposure to many different opportunities for professional growth and experiential development.

Sample projects may include:

 

  • Conducting qualitative research and analysis of our clients through review of their past fundraising performance, peer benchmarking, and interviews with organization’s executives, volunteer leaders, and donors.
  • Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of core strategic fundraising issues for clients.
  • Developing work plans, timelines, and materials for campaign planning studies and development assessments.
  • Preparing fundraising campaign materials, including strategic plans, operating materials, case statements, and major gift proposals.
  • Developing campaign plans and design campaign strategies.
  • Conducting in-depth prospect research.
  • Crafting individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Preparing clear and compelling presentation materials.
  • Generating creative, action-oriented insights and recommendations for fundraising advancement.
  • Writing and delivering high-impact presentations and plans, often in a donor-centric voice.
  • Developing independent work plans, perform data-driven analysis, and take ownership for significant portions of client projects.

  • LAPA seeks talented professionals with fundraising experience as well as those with transferable consulting, communications, marketing, and strategic planning experience to join our dynamic team. Occasional overnight travel is a part of the job.
